RPL devices are a double effect mechanical seismic restraint characterized by a bilinear elastic stiffness. Its capable of transmitting minimal reaction force (both compression and tension) to the structure up until a certain displacement is reached, generally associated to termical effects; it becomes rigid as the displacement becomes more prominent blocking the possible hammering of structures close by.
Its application is heavily ideal in structures with thermal expansion devices unable to withstand seismic movements, in substation the most common Shock transmitter. In fact, compared to the latter, RPL are more cost friendly and has “zero maintenance”. It is a purely elastic device not capable of dissipating any form of energy.
